1. Area and number of slabs. A single walkway panel is different from a multi-panel driveway with several lift points.
2. Amount of settlement. Greater movement can require more material and a slower, more complex lift.
3. Void size. Filling a deep or widespread unsupported area may use substantially more material than correcting a shallow tilt.
4. Access. Gates, landscaping, retaining walls, attached structures, and equipment reach can change the work plan.
5. Repair method. Polyurethane foam and cement-based mudjacking use different materials, hole sizes, equipment, and estimating models.

Why online price-per-square-foot figures can mislead

Square footage matters, but leveling is not the same as installing a uniform new surface. Two slabs of equal size can require very different volumes of lifting material. One may need a small correction at an edge; another may span an extensive void. Minimum service charges also make small jobs look expensive when reduced to a square-foot number.

Compare the whole repair, not just the bid

Ask each provider to describe the expected result, material, access holes, void filling, cleanup, limitations, and warranty terms. The lowest number is difficult to evaluate if the underlying scope is unclear. Also compare the quote with replacement when the slab has extensive cracking or deterioration.

Prepare for an estimate

Measure the approximate length and width, note the largest height difference, photograph the full surface and close-up edges, and identify nearby drains or downspouts. This helps a provider understand the project before an on-site visit, though final pricing may still require direct inspection.
